GIRL CRUSH: Solange Knowles

Where did Solange come from and when did she become so much cooler than her sister? I've watched her new music video, LOSING YOU, 11 times now and her brick printed pant suit and uninhibited dance moves have not lost an ounce of appeal. 12 times now. Anyway. Since moving to Brooklyn last fall, Solange has made a real name for herself in the New York City indie scene. Part DJ, part musician, part mom, Solange has very much moved out of her sisters shadow and has become her own. AND LOOK AT THAT HAIR! Either in a fierce poof around her face or grazing her upper thigh, I think it's fair to say that Solange could beat Willow Smith in a hair-off any day of the week.

babel

There's something about Mumford & Sons new album that puts me into a muted color aesthetic funk and makes me want to read My Lost City in the middle of a cornfield. Perhaps it's the sunday speaking, or the pile of reading I still haven't done for my Avant Garde Cinema class, but all I want to do is craft and sew tiny things to other tiny things while drinking chai and listening to Babel.

frutta&verdura

Looking through my archives of pleasing images I've amassed over the years, (so eloquently placed in a folder entitled pretty things) I stumbled upon Richard Burbridge's photoshoot Salad Days he did for T Magazine last spring. Immediately struck by the jarring similarities of this shoot and Guiseppe Arcimboldo's work, an artist I swooned over so hard in Italy that I forced my friend to ride the Firenze Rapida with me all the way to the Uffizi steps, I have placed them here side-by-side for your enjoyment.
